FALL TEAM TENNIS
As of October 26, the Division One Pythons led by Margaret Richardson held on to first place
with 5 wins and 2 losses. Hot on their heels, however, the 4-3 Cobras (Pedro Zaragosa) were
seeking to close the gap. The Copperheads, captained by Rick Adkins, were still in the race
at 3-4. Finishing out Division One were the Rattlesnakes, headed by Charlie Flather and Deb
Fitzgerald.
The Division Two Cottonmouths, headed by Jan Zanville, boasted the best record in either
division at 6-1. Still in contention were Rod Wolfe's Sidewinders (4-3) and Dave Fairbank's
Anacondas (3-4). Ken Tiffany's Vipers rounded out Division Two.
Play on Nov. 3 was postponed. City Rec was concerned about court cleaning occurring on time
after the forest fires. This match, if played, will be held December 13.
Spring Team Tennis will start about 1 Feb. Signups will be held in January. If you know of
someone who would like to play, please let them know.

WINNING USTA WOMEN'S 4.0 TEAM
Captain Mary Jane Clements reports that Coronado's 2003 USTA 4.0 Adult League team came in
first place this past spring. The League was comprised of 13 teams. Matches were
played in April, May and June. CTA members on the team were Aimee Goldcamp, Debbie Fitzgerald,
Carol Jory, Diane Faye, Helen Nealer, Linda Stadelli, Jennie Portelli, Nancy Kibbey,
Monika Crotta, Mary Ellen Abbott, Jaime Centeno, Kathy Jones and Mary Jane Clements.
Their efforts produced an 11-1 record for the season. The team competed at the Sectionals
held in Orange County in August with Jennie Portelli and Jaime Centeno winning their singles
matches and Aimee Goldcamp and Helen Nealer winning their doubles match. It was a very
successful and fun season.

FACILITIES UPDATE
Happy Holidays everyone (a bit early)! This has been a big year facilities-wise.
The Glorietta courts look fantastic after their resurfacing with new powder-coated fencing
and new windscreens. Our Recreation Director, Linda Rahn and City Engineer, Eric Minicelli
ensured that we received only the very best from the contractor. Also, you'll notice several
of our courts have had their nets replaced with a 5-year warranted net manufactured by Wilson
Sporting Goods. Your CTA money has been used to fund an additional three nets to provide
the City with a net inventory to be used as nets require replacement.
Additionally, the Board approved purchasing a "Bakko" backboard (concave to provide a more
true ball return) to be installed at the CHS courts when the portable classrooms are removed
and the courts resurfaced by CUSD. For you TT members, the CTA board also approved funding
for three sets of "scorekeepers."
I've got to say that our City, whether it be the Rec Department or Public Services, has responded
to each and every work request I've brought to their attention. Ms. Kim Godby, Asst. Foreman,
has bent over backwards to replace burned out lights, reset light timers or repair troublesome
gate latches. If you get the opportunity, contact Mr. Scott Huth at Public Services to let
him know how much Kim's hard work is appreciated.
Also, the contracting team that washes the courts strives to have them washed around the 1st
and 15th of each month. If you have any problems with their cleanliness please contact me and
I'll be "all over them" about their work. I know them very well! Finally, the City Rec Department
has tentatively scheduled the Library courts for resurfacing once the Library construction is
complete and the Cays courts for resurfacing in August 2005. The two CHS courts covered by the
portable classrooms will be resurfaced and made playable once the portable classrooms are no
longer needed. The remaining two CHS courts, Court #1 and #2 are scheduled for resurfacing in
August 2005. This schedule basically ensures that our courts will be resurfaced/renewed no
later than every 4-5 years.
One last item, from the Facilities vantage point, please keep your eye on the CUSD/City plans
as far as the CHS courts are concerned and help your Board members by becoming involved.
Many voices speak volumes and show we have strength in numbers rather that the same few tennis
players always trying to defend our few tennis courts.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER
The holidays are almost here and we truly have a lot to be thankful for. The City of Coronado
deserves our appreciation for approving the beautiful refurbishing of the tennis courts and
Linda Rahn, Director of Recreation along with Scott Huth from Public Services did an outstanding
job coordinating that effort.
Next in line for a job well done are Rob Moore and Richard Butterworth for their continued efforts
to keep the courts clean, especially with all of the ashes after the horrible fires our county
experienced. Our prayers go out to our neighbors across the bay.
On a happier note, the Tennis Pro Selection Committee is hard at work completing the process to
select a City Tennis Pro. I understand that within the first 4 days there were 21 requests
for the RFP's (Request for Proposals) to be sent out to interested applicants. I'm not surprised,
as we have a great town to work and play tennis in.
Also, to let you know some of our recent CTA expenditures: nets at the Glorietta courts, two
beautiful baskets from "Baskets & More" filled with tennis goodies that we donated to worthy causes
(one for the Sacred Heart Golf Tour/Dinner and another for the Coronado Schools Foundation
Dinner/Auction), and jackets for the CHS Girls' Varsity tennis team. We continue to donate our
Team Tennis balls to nonprofit tennis groups such as CHS tennis, Sacred Heart tennis and the CMS
tennis team, etc. The CHS Islander All Sports Foundation received a $250 scholarship from the
CTA along with our annual $1,000 CHS boy/girl Tennis Scholarship. We all should be very proud
of our accomplishments and I'm sure that the Coronado Schools children appreciate our efforts.
Please come join us for our Parent/Child tennis round robin on Sat. Nov. 29th. Lunch is included.
If your child is unavailable to play, see if a neighbor's child might be interested in joining in
the fun! Children and parents of all ages are welcome (see enclosed application).
A big thank you goes to Charlie Flather for his dedication to TT and to all the League captains
who also put in so much time and effort.
Kathy Jones has a great Xmas Party/Annual Meeting planned with a fabulous DJ. I personally promise
that hors d'oeuvres will be ready when you arrive and there'll
be enough seating for everyone (I'll keep the Annual Meeting short too)! So put on your
dancing shoes and join us for a lively evening!
